Mostly Bordeaux

Rearrange your plans, send the kids to a movie and stop by the shop this Saturday when we’ll be showing off a great line up of wines, mostly from Bordeaux, that you won’t want to miss. All of these wines are great deals for both quality and value. They might make you think about stocking up your wine cellar if you have one, or starting one if you don’t. Come check them out.

2008 Domaine Franck Millet, Sancere $20
100% Savignon Blanc
Here’s the exception from the Loire, but we couldn’t pass up the chance to pour this great dry white. The Millet is from a 3rd generation family run estate. on Limestone-clay. The wine undergoes a slow, low temperature fermentation in thermoregulated stainless steel vats for 7 to 10 weeks. The wine has a powerful aromatic nose, good acidity and a surprising suppleness and roundness that lingers on the palate.

2006 Chateau Gigault, Primieres Cotes de Blaye $10
85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Like past vintages, the 2006 Gigault is a tremendous wine for the money. Gigault is made from estate grown fruit, with vines averaging 35 years of age. The yields are kept low to 2 tons per acre. The wine emphasizes the fruit, and is lees-aged for complexity and richness.

2005 Carignan L' Orange $11.50
Carignan is the estate’s name, the wine is Merlot. The estate was founded by Jean Poton de Xaintrailles -- comrade in arms of Joan of Arc and crusher of the English at the Battle of Castillon. Today it is run by Mme Marie Claude Deville who runs the estate completely organic. Merlot is in its element on the estate's clayey hills, and is fertilized by Limousin cows. This the winery’s young vine 'second wine' is excellent, with black fruit flavors and a hint of burnt orange peel. It has full tannins and a lot of grip for the money.

2006 Chateau Franc Grace Dieu, Saint Emilion Grand Cru $14
54% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chateau Franc Grace Dieu is located just outside the village of Saint-Emilion, In the Middle Ages it was a Cistercian priory and therefore ‘by God’s grace’ free (franc) of taxation. The Fournier family, the current proprietors, have leased the estate since 1981. Franc Grace Dieu is fermented in temperature-controlled vats and then matured in oak barrels for 18 months. The wine is full ripe and rich with the Cabernet Franc (not free) adding a distinctive note to this great Bordeaux value.

2004 La Gravette de Certan, Pomerol $39
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc (Vines from 5 to 20 years old)
The second wine of Vieux Château Certan, a small but renowned Pomerol estate, La Gravette is a first rate Bordeaux. The wine is full and balanced with red berry aromas, rich smooth tannins and mouthwatering finish. The 2004 is fully developed and ready to drink. It is a big wine for a very reasonable if not inexpensive price. We may only open one bottle of the Gravette so come early.
