Spanish Summer Delights

Stop by the shop this Saturday and check out some Spanish wines that will set up any summer activity -- from the crisp Las Colinas Grenache Blanc which is perfect to cool a hot afternoon, to  the spicy and full bodied Rhone style blend from Vega Escal that can stand up to any smoky meat off the barbeque.   The forecast for Saturday looks optimal for a little wine sipping, so stop on by and check them out.

2008 Las Colinas del Ebro, Garnacha Blanca $10

Made from 100 year old Garnacha Blanca vines grown in Terra Alta, the Las Colinas has aromas of mineral, spring flowers, white peach, and melon that jumps from the glass. On the palate it is refreshing, mouth-filling, and vibrant with plenty of spicy fruit, good depth, and a fruit-filled finish.

2007 Adegas Gran Vinum, Nessa Albarino  $14

From a family owned winery from Rias Baixas in the Northwest of Spain, the Nessa Albarino is packed with bright, crisp, grapefruit, lemon peel and mineral flavors, smooth and full with an impressively long, clean finish.

2007 Vinos de Fabula. Vivir, Vivir,  Ribera del Duero  $10

The 2007 Vivir, Vivir is 100% Tempranillo sourced from 20- to 60-year-old vines in La Horra. The wine is unoaked, leaving the smooth and suple cherry fruit flavors to shine all the way through a good long finish.

2005 Vega Escal $20

The Vega Estal is a smooth and elegant Rhone style blend from Priorat made up of  60% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah.  The wine is spicy and dense, with a bouquet of cedar, mineral, plum, black cherry as well as some good minerality.  The 2005 got a bronze medal award from Decanter, and 90 pts from Tanzer and the Wine Advocate.  Strangely, we like it too.
