Holiday Sipping

The holidays are upon us.  The days are short, the nights are cold.  Fortunately there are plenty of opportunities to escape the gloom with friends and family. Stop by the shop this Saturday and try some wines that will make your holiday occasions more festive.  All are guaranteed to warm the winter nights.

Jaillance Cremant de Bourgogne  $13

From Maconnais, the most southerly part of the Burgundy region comes this sparking deal. The wine is 80% Chardonnay with the balance made up of Pinot Noir and Gamay.  Made using the same traditional method as Champagne, the Cremant de Bourgogne Jaillance has a fine and abundant effervescence.  The nose is alive with an alluring scent of wild roses. Flavors of citrus fruit, apple and pear mingle with the fresh buttery chardonnay notes and honey overtones.

2008 Jezebel Blanc  $14

50% Pinot Blanc, 28% Pinot Gris, 14% Gewerztraminer, 8% Riesling
The second label of Daedalus Cellars the Jezebel Blanc is a blend of four varietals from four Oregon vineyards.  The blend is crisp with clean, ripe, aromatic fruit and is very food friendly.

2007 Owen Roe Cabernet Sauvignon "Sharecroppers"   $15

Sharecroppers, the second label of Owen Roe started when they put an oversupply of their grapes into neutral barrels. Most of the fruit for the Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Six Prong Vineyard in Alderdale, Washington. The Cabernet is plush and forward with fresh berry flavor.

2007 Domaine Brusset Cairanne "Les Travers"   $19

60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, 5% Cinsault.
This single vineyard Rhone blend comes from 30 year old vines.  Full and rich it starts out with aromas of black current and elderberries followed by full and concentrated flavors of licorice and black cherries as well as a touch of black pepper and spice.

2004 Cardinal-Villemaurine Saint-Emilion Grand Cru  $20

85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc
Chateau Villemaurine is one of the oldest winegrowing estates in the entire Saint-Emilion region. The vineyards extend over 7 hectares of clay-limestone soil planted with vines up to 70 years old.  The yields are kept low, the grapes hand harvested with only the best fruit getting picked.  The wine ages for 18 months in oak barrels (one-third new and two-thirds one year old).  The Villemaurine has complex aromas of roasted almonds and cocoa, and a thick and rich, full palate of ripe fruit, excellent balance and an aromatic finish.  This is a great deal in a right bank Bordeaux at as great price and ready to drink.

Quinta de la Rosa Port "Finest Reserve"  half bottle $12 -full bottle $20

Aged 4-6 years before bottling, this reserve port is great for any winter evening.
Parker rated the wine 92pts  "Quinta de la Rosa's Finest Reserve Port is a stunning example of what can be achieved and found in non-vintage port blends. This small port lodge has turned out a terrific, full-bodied, garnet/ruby-colored wine with a big, chocolatey, black-cherry, cedary nose, full-bodied, unctuously-textured flavors, and gobs of fruit and richness, as well as an off-dry, impressive finish."  We just think it is thick and yummy
