Burgundy

Stop by this Saturday and check out some Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from producers Domaine du Prieurè & Maison Capitain-Gagnerot. It’s a great chance to try some lovely wines from Bourgogne and the outstanding 2005 vintage. Beats mowing the lawn. Cory Van de Ven will be on hand to tell you all about them.

2005 Maison Capitain-Gagnerot, Hautes Cotes de Beaune $21

Patrice and Michel Gagnerot, the 7th generation producers of this estate, hold 5.77 acres, north of Beaune. This Chardonnay comes from 29 year old vines. “The wine is medium gold hue, with expressive aromas of honey minerals and wet stones. Fresh fruit flavors of lime and minerals. Juicy finish. “

2005 Domaine du Prieurè, Savigny les Beaune, Blanc $21

A blend of old vine and older vine (34 and 83year old) Chardonnay grown at ‘les Vermots” at the north end of the village of Savigny les Beaune. This is a rarity, as less than 5% of all Savigny is white. The wine boasts “Wild aromas hawthorn blossom and hazelnuts. Exotic flavors of butterscotch mango, pineapples and crisp apples. Soft, with lovely minerality, lemon/citrus acidity.“

2005 Domaine du Prieurè, Bourgogne Rouge, $15

The 2003 vintage of this wine was a long running shop favorite. Come see how the ’05 stacks up. The wine touts “ a bright cherry red intensity, with pronounced aromas of freshly crushed strawberries and morello cherries. Both forceful and gentile, with fine spice and light red fruits.“

2005 Maison Capitain-Gagnerot, Bourgogne Rouge $23

From Ladoix where the Côte de Nuits meets the Côte de Beaune. This pinot is Grown on silt and clay soil with 40 year old vines. The vineyards are subjected to a rather dry semi-continental climate which makes for an relatively early ripening of the grapes. The Bourgogne rouge “ is fruity, elegant and supple wine. A real invitation to softness and delicacy.”

2005 Domaine du Prieurè Savigny les Beaune “ Moutier Amet” $25

The Prieure Savigny les Beaune is made from 39 year old pinot noir vines from “Moutier Amet” the sloped vineyard behind the estate, which lies across the street from the 1er Cru “Le Narbanton.” Named after the monk who lived at the Prieurè Monastery in the 6th century. The wine shows “ Nuanced bright aromas of red- and blackcurrant, raw cinnamon and flowers. Fine with flavors of black fruits, minerals and spice. Finishes with fine tannins and great length.“
