2007 Gewurtztraminer Kabinett $17
This Gewurtztraminer, made from 40 year old vines, has a bright brilliant gold color, with a very expressive aromatic bouquet of roses, mango, passion fruit and apricots. On the palate the wine is elegant and aromatic with a fine acidity and long finish. This wine is well suited as an aperitif, is excellent with strong chesses like Gorgonzola and Roquefort, and can stand up to Asian spices.
2006 Riesling Spätlese $23
This Anselmann Riesling has 9.9% alcohol, 66.9 grams of residual sugar and enough acidity to balance it all out. The wine is very aromatic, fragrantly fruity on the nose with notes of apple, apricot and grapefruit. It is elegant, and subtly sweet, with lively acidity and a long refreshing finish.
2004 Spatburgunder Rotwein $17
Spatburgunder is the German name for Pinot Noir, but this wine is about as far away from the Willamette Valley and Burgundy as you can get. It has 10.5% alcohol and 51 grams of residual sugar. The wine has a dark brick red color. Fragrantly it is reminiscent of strawberries, raspberries, currants and spice with rich mineral notes. The wine is elegant, and full bodied, melding terrifically integrated acidity with voluptuous fruit and a long exquisite finish. The 2004 has won several medals in Germany and the Czech Republic.
2006 Acolon QbA $23
Acolon is a crossbreed of Lemberger and Dornfelder. The Anselmann Acolon is a dark dry red wine with an aromatic nose reminiscent of ripe black currents and cherries. Distinguished, elegant, and round, on the palate, very aromatic with smooth acidity and a long finish.
2003 Silvaner, Trocken Beerenauslese $42 for 375ml
Trocken Beerenauslese is the highest classification of German wine, both for quality and sweetness. This one from Anselmann is made from Silvaner grapes, shriveled by the noble rot botrytis, and individually picked. The wine has 160 grams of residual sugar and 12.8% alcohol. The wine has won gold medals in Germany, Brussels and the Czech Republic. The wine has an intensely aromatic bouquet of ripe fruits, featuring peach, pineapple, apricot, and passion fruit with floral and honeyed notes. The flavor is sumptuously sweet and rich with acidity. This lavish and rare, well balanced jewel of a wine will age well for decades developing additional complexity and character. It is an amazing dessert wine that is dessert by itself.
